Patrick A. Strubbe, ChFC, CLU, RFC

    Founder, Owner

Patrick Strubbe is the founder and owner of Preservation Specialists, LLC, established in 2003. Since 1997, Pat has been teaching consumers age 50+ how to preserve their assets and increase their income through the use of tax efficient strategies.

Pat vividly remembers being in high school and how his grandfather’s need for nursing care at that time affected his entire family. His mom having to handle the bills and coordinate payments, his grandfather having to depend on someone else to take care of him both physically and financially — the entire situation wore down the family. This experience is what gave Pat the desire to help people attain their financial goals and avoid the problems his family faced.

A well-known financial educator and retirement planning specialist, Pat is a recurring guest on the WIS (NBC)-TV news with anchor Dawndy Mercer Plank. He also was the financial columnist for the Lexington Chronicle for many years and has been featured in USA Today, Columbia Business Monthly, Investor’s Business Daily and other national publications. He has been a featured guest on numerous radio shows around the country and is often recruited as an area "expert" in the field of retirement planning. He is the host of the show “Save Your Retirement” on WVOC and author of the Amazon.com best-selling book, “Save Your Retirement from Mass Destruction by the 7 Retirement Villains!” His professional designations include Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Registered Financial Consultant (RFC).

Pat lives in Columbia, South Carolina, and is married to his beautiful wife, Janelle, who works as a nurse. He is the proud father of four children: son Carter who is attending college, daughter Ava who is a senior at Dutch Fork High School, two year old Gabriella, and finally their baby Isla. As you might imagine, Pat’s wife and children bring him immense joy, and with teens and young children, he can sometimes be sleep deprived! :-)

Pat enjoys watching NBA basketball games with his friends and family. He loves to see his favorite team, the LA Lakers, whenever he can, and has fond memories of watching the Lakers in the era of Magic Johnson from his youth. Pat also is an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Irmo, where he has served as an elder of finances since 2003.

    Linda Walsh Young

    Financial Advisor

In January of 2013, Linda joined our company from the banking industry- where she discovered her love for helping people achieve their financial goals. She is a licensed financial advisor, having earned her Series 7, 63 and 66  securities licenses from FINRA and her South Carolina insurance producer’s license 19-03 for life, accident and health. She is one-third of the advisory team (along with Pat and John) that meets with and helps clients plan their financial and investment strategies.

Linda also takes the lead on our clients’ investments,  continually reviewing a range of investment offerings that are already in (or might best fit into) our clients’ portfolios. She regularly handles the coordination of the various investment stages within the life cycles of alternative investments and handles any market trading needed. If you have no idea what any of the above means, Linda also specializes in explaining things in “plain English” for you!

Prior to moving to South Carolina in 2003, Linda traveled extensively and worked and lived in many different states and several countries. (Bermuda was one of her personal favorites!)  She graduated from the University of Vermont, with a B.S. degree in law and policy administration. Her wide range of professional experience includes management in the special events field as well as Christian education administration, all prior to her work in the financial world.

Linda has one son, currently a college student at a small college in Minnesota. She often travels to the north to visit some of her family (and her favorite NFL team) in Wisconsin. She also serves on the finance committee for her church, being very comfortable reviewing columns of numbers and analyzing balance sheets.

Linda can be reached directly at

    John Farley

    Financial Advisor

You may know John Farley as your weatherman, but he’s also been involved in the finance world for many years. After growing up in Massachusetts with his five siblings, he obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts is in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. He ran a hedge fund for six years where he and his team developed and implemented statistical models used in trading commodities.

John has a Master of Science in Meteorology from San Jose State University in San Jose, California. While in graduate school John worked with a team to create mathematical models that forecast fog at San Francisco International Airport. The team was awarded the Excellence in Aviation Award from the FAA in 2002 and John is happy to report that the FAA still uses these models today.

John is also an EMMY Award Meteorologist and Certified Meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society. John believes there are a lot of similarities between meteorology and investing. He says, “Sometimes weather forecasters can get carried away with ‘wish-casting’ a major snowstorm or some other significant weather event. No one wins them all, but it’s usually prudent to stay grounded and have a process for how you approach weather.” John was thrilled to find that Pat and Preservation Specialists have very similar beliefs when dealing with their clients' finances.

John and his wife Maura have been happily married for 25 years. They moved to Lexington in 2010 after living in California for many years. She is a Spanish teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Lexington. Their oldest daughter, Grace, will graduate from Clemson in May with a degree in Elementary Education. Their second daughter, Rosemary, will attend the University of North Carolina, Asheville, in the fall – also pursuing a degree in teaching. Their son, Jack, is a junior at Lexington High School.

    Karina Acosta

    Design Director

Karina has been working for Preservation Specialists since 2014. She has done everything from reception to client service but has happily settled into Marketing. Having an extensive artistic background, Marketing and Event Planning is what makes her happiest and where she feels she can best serve the clients!

Karina has lived in Columbia since February 2013, when she moved here with her Husband, Jorge, and their hound-mix, Zelda. Since then, they have fallen in love with Columbia and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. In their spare time, they are involved with animal welfare and foster puppies and older dogs. They recently adopted Rocky, a sweet pit bull Catahoula mix. Karina also loves all of the arts and dedicates some of her free time to photography and painting, specifically water color.

At Preservation Specialists, Karina is in charge of managing social media accounts, designing the monthly newsletter, planning all client appreciation events, and making sure all clients are communicated with when there is ever any important investment news.

If you ever have any questions, you can reach her at Karina@SCPreservation.com.

    Allen Brown

    Client Accounts Administrator

Allen Brown was born right here in Columbia, South Carolina. His mother graduated from what was Booker T. Washington High School and his father graduated from Lakeview in Cayce-West Columbia. After he graduated from W. J. Keenan High School, he spent three years and six months of active duty in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and Garrison Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His time in the Army shaped a lot of his expectations for life. He received his bachelor’s degrees from USC-Columbia. While at USC he met his beautiful wife, Darlene (Dingle) Brown. They have three beautiful daughters: Destiny, 19, Sydney, 7, and Bailey, 5. Allen spends a lot of his energy supporting his church, serving on the board of advisors, as the finance committee chair and as one of the adult Sunday school teachers.

He usually unplugs from the day-to-day hustle and bustle by playing with his children, reading and watching old movies on MeTV and GET TV, if he’s not watching anything out of his collection. His favorite movie of all time is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” His NFL team is the Redskins, and his MLB team is the Braves. He has no NBA team these days, however, you can probably guess that he is part of “Gamecock Nation” after meeting his wife, getting his ROTC commission and graduating from USC — not to mention all the checks he had to write to them! He’s paid for the right to like them!

Oh, you can add the Brenau Golden Tigers to that list. His daughter Destiny is a member of the cheering team.

    Rachel Pedde

    New Account and Transfer Coordinator

Rachel Pedde was born in South Bend, Indiana. When she was in grade school, 3rd grade to be exact, she met Andrew, a very interesting 4th grader. Little did she know she would marry him 15 years later!

In July 2010, Andrew, Rachel and their 6-year-old German Shepherd mix, Indy, decided they wanted to move to South Carolina to be closer to Andrew’s family and get away from all of the snow shoveling in the midwest.

A few years after moving, they welcomed Parker, their son, into the world! Some of Parker’s favorite things are candy, playing in the water, going to the zoo, Mickey Mouse, Ninja Turtles and singing songs.

Rachel’s mom and dad currently live in Wisconsin, along with Rachel’s brother, his wife and their two kids. She also has one sister who lives in Arizona with her three kids and another brother who lives in Washington with his wife and three kids.

The Pedde family are huge football fans, particularly when it comes to the Indianapolis Colts! Fall is Rachel’s favorite season because of football and cool weather.

Rachel has over 10 years experience in the life and disability insurance industry and document processing, which is what brought her to Preservation Specialists. She will be taking care of new business processing and client service requests and is happy to get to know all of you in the coming months.

If you have any service questions, or just want to welcome Rachel to the team, feel free to send her an email to Rachel@SCPreservation.com.

    Lindsay Fowler

    Client Relations Coordinator

Lindsay Fowler was born in Raleigh, NC and raised in Charleston, SC, where she spent 15 years. When she was 20 years old, she moved to Okinawa, Japan. During her two years in Okinawa, she gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Presley Kate (PK for short). Her and PK have adventured all over the world, having lived in and visited Okinawa, England, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Brussels, Belgium, and France.

About a year-and-a-half ago, Lindsay moved back to Columbia and enrolled at Greenville Tech online to complete the bridge program in hopes to transfer to USC. She currently has a degree in Science but also hopes to attain a degree in Business Administration.

During her down time, Lindsay loves to visit her mom, who is a retired psychiatric nurse and photographer in Charleston, SC. Lindsay and PK also enjoy visiting Lindsay’s dad, an Internet network architect in Alpharetta, GA. Some of Lindsay and PK’s favorite things activities include travel, cooking, gardening, science, microbiology, and anything involving dogs and piglets!
